What are the methods of glass polishing

Glass polishing refers to using chemical or physical methods to remove the lines, scratches and other defects on the glass surface, improve the transparency and refractive index of the glass, and make the glass more vitrified.

Method 1: Fire polishing

The use of flames to soften the glass surface and the impact of fire on the glass can solve some material textures on the surface of glass products, but the flatness of the glass surface after processing will be reduced. Generally, the mouth of the hollow glass after cutting is rough and can be polished by this method.

Applicable material glass: soda-lime glass, high jump silicon glass

Disadvantage: easy to fry

Method 2: Polishing powder polishing

The use of high-speed rubbing of the polishing powder on the glass surface to remove scratches, hairs, etc. can greatly improve the light transmittance and refractive effect of the glass. Before polishing, first polish the polished area with abrasive belts. Pure planes should be polished with more than 400 mesh emery abrasive discs. This polishing method uses many tools and materials, but the effect is better with cerium oxide (common name: rare earth Polishing powder)

Applicable material glass: most glass products

Disadvantage: slower

Method 3: Acid polishing

The surface treatment of glass using the acid's corrosive effect on the glass also requires sanding the surface of the glass before polishing, because acid polishing can reduce the thickness of the glass a lot, but it may not completely remove the glass texture. Its formula changes depending on the glass material. This method is extremely dangerous! Non-professionals and companies with complete equipment do not recommend personal testing.

Applicable material glass: any glass (but the effect of polishing is determined by the glass material itself)

Disadvantage: The smoothness is not controlled, and there is a certain loss of the water horn of the glass product.

Difference between the BD wheel and the BK wheel in glass grinding wheel

BK wheel

Composition: BK wheels are also known as glass edge polishing wheels, mud wheels, etc., refined from special materials.

Scope of application: The mud wheel (BK) wheel is mainly used for polishing the periphery of glass on straight edge machines, double edge machines, special edge grinding machines, and linear round edge machines. BK wheels are specially used for fine processing of furniture glass, decorative glass, and craft glass. Cup-shaped BK wheels are mainly used for polishing on straight and double-sided machines, while parallel BK wheels are used for polishing on special-shaped machines. High abrasion resistance. The BK wheel can also be used for polishing the bottom edge and chamfering of glass. The mud wheel (BK wheel) is available in various sizes of 40, 60, 80, 120, 240 and so on.

BD wheel

Ingredients: BD wheel is made by special polymer material mixed with very sharp alumina and silicon carbide. It has excellent elasticity and polishing efficiency. It is characterized by long-term shape retention, and the polished glass edge has very good brightness. It is a typical glass edge processing technology.

Scope of application: Type of polishing wheel on the profiled machine.
